Turn the journey to school into a game about noticing danger and making safer choices.

A child on a bicycle approaches a blocked village road and warning signs in Safe Path
A familiar journey, a meaningful choice. A bicycle ride through the village becomes a reason to notice warning signs.

A lesson children can play

For children growing up around explosive hazards, a safety message has to connect with everyday life. Mine Awareness, released by MAG Iraq as Safe Path, places that message inside a recognizable goal: get to school. Players look for hazards and choose a safer route through the world.

The appeal comes from giving the player an active role. Instead of only reading a warning, a child has a reason to look closely, make a choice, and keep moving. The everyday setting makes an unfamiliar educational topic part of a journey they already understand.

Make the world part of the lesson

I built the dialogue and puzzle systems in C# and created all of the character and environment art. Owning both the systems and visuals let me shape the experience as one connected piece: the place a child explores, the information they receive, and the choices the game asks them to make.

Localized dialogue helps the experience meet its audience in their own language. Custom shaders and mobile optimization support the same goal from the technical side: bring the illustrated world onto the phones the game is made for.

Teach in context. Kurdish guidance sits beside illustrated hazards, connecting the message to what the child sees in the game.

Play with a real purpose

The project was funded by MAG Iraq and has reached 8,500+ downloads. MAG describes the game as a companion to its community risk-education work, available in Arabic and Kurdish. Its launch story explains how familiar scenarios and simple decisions can give children another way to engage with safety information.

From a brief to a finished game

This project shows the value of bringing development and art together: a complete mobile experience built around a specific audience, a clear learning goal, and the practical work of shipping it.
